One quiet Saturday morning, my husband, who is typically indifferent to my aspirational ideas for home improvement, took an unusual interest in the small decaying blemish below our shower door. He poked his finger into the crumbling sheetrock just to see what would happen. He continued to pick away at the powdery wall until that small, jagged hole became a long, rectangular void running the full length of the shower opening.
